Program Highlights

Our downtown location offers students great opportunities to land internships across metro Atlanta, which has been dubbed The Next Great Tech Hub by American Inno.

  • The program focuses intensively on the technical aspects of software and hardware related to computer science, data science, cyber-security and other topics.
  • Research in Computer Science at Georgia State is classified as “R1: Doctoral Universities” for having the highest research activity by Carnegie classification. Our faculty have won six National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER awards and one NSF CRII award, and have received research grants from a variety of other funding agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Computer Science graduate students have abundant opportunities to obtain on-campus assistantships that come with a tuition waiver.
  • Graduates are employed in major corporations, including Google, eBay, GE, Amazon and Anthem.

Careers

The Computer Science M.S. program is flexible and allows students to find the right fit in industry or research.

Computer Science graduates work in a wide range of local and national companies, including Google, eBay, GE, Amazon, Anthem, UPS, Coca-Cola, LexisNexis, ADP and NCR. Most of our M.S. graduates are employed in industry within a few months of graduation, while others go on to Ph.D. programs.

Program Details

In addition to the online graduate application, the Department of Computer Science has the following requirements:

  • A baccalaureate degree in computer science or equivalent. While we welcome capable students with non-computer-science degrees, they may need some foundation courses.
  • A supplemental application for computer science.
  • A statement of background and goals.
  • Three letters of recommendations from individuals who can evaluate the applicant’s potential for graduate work in computer science.
  • GRE (General) score.

Generally, there are 24-28 hours of core courses depending on whether a student chooses the thesis or project option.

For more details, go to the course catalog.

The Computer Science M.S. program provides students with advanced training in the fundamental principles, processes and applications of information and computational technologies.
