Master of Laws, LL.M.
Surrounded by business, government, nonprofit and cultural organizations, Georgia State Law provides an ideal environment for gaining practical experience and engaging in interdisciplinary research and collaboration, especially for those seeking an LL.M. (master of laws).
If you are seeking an LL.M. to enhance your practice opportunities, to qualify for careers in teaching or government service, or simply to broaden your legal horizons, our LL.M. program is right for you. It allows you to fine-tune your legal expertise in Health Law, Intellectual Property, Environmental and Land Use Law, and general legal knowledge. If you are a foreign-trained lawyer, our program will allow you to apply to take the Georgia bar exam.
Our program is open to any law graduate (e.g., J.D., LL.B., B.L., B.A. in Law and Society) and is one of the most affordable anywhere.
Master of Music (M.Mu.), Concentration in Conducting (Low-Residency)
The Master of Music concentration in Conducting (Low-Residency) at Georgia State offers conductors who are already working in the field the opportunity to advance their education and training during the summer. Students must hold a Bachelors in Music degree and have regular access to leading a large ensemble. This degree is offered in a fully online format during the academic year (fall and spring) with an in-person format for the Summer I Session (June).
For guidance and feedback, Students take the respective conducting course (Choral Conducting or Instrumental Conducting) online in either the fall or spring semester of the program. During the summer, students participate in a six-credit hour conducting seminar that overlaps with the Summer Music Institute and Atlanta Summer Conducting Institute (as auditors only). One additional elective course is also available each summer to round out the needed degree credits.
Master of Music, Concentration in Choral Conducting, M.Mu.
The Georgia State University Master of Music with a concentration in Choral Conducting program offers exceptional training to talented musicians wishing to study choral art at an advanced level. Intensive study with our faculty and regular performance experience is the foundation for developing highly qualified, professional conductors. Students in the program regularly conduct the Master Singers, an auditioned chamber choir of 20 to 30 voices in rehearsal and performance and assist with the other four choral ensembles (Treble Choir, Tenor-Bass Choir, University Singers and Choral Union).
Master of Music, Concentration in Composition, M. Mu.
The Georgia State University Composition Concentration offers aspiring composers a comprehensive and immersive experience. The curriculum is designed to develop students' artistic expression and compositional skills across various musical genres and styles. Through individualized instruction, students work closely with experienced faculty, honing their composition techniques and exploring their unique creative voices.
The program emphasizes traditional and contemporary composition approaches, fostering a well-rounded understanding of music theory, orchestration and electronic music. Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources, including cutting-edge recording studios and composition software, allowing them to bring their musical ideas to life with professional-level production quality.

The graduate programs in the School of Music offer unparalleled opportunities in one of America’s most vibrant urban centers. The school enrolls about 90 students in Master of Music degree programs, Artist Certificate programs, and Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs in music education.
Students have the opportunity to work with an internationally acclaimed faculty of 40 full-time and 24 part-time faculty in concentrations such as performance, pedagogy, music education, conducting, composition and jazz studies.
Master of Music, Concentration in Guitar Performance, M.Mu.
The Georgia State Master of Music with a concentration in guitar performance provides advanced preparation for a career as a concert performer, as both soloist and chamber musician and as a teacher of guitar. Georgia State's location in the heart of Atlanta, a cultural gem of the South, allows Master of Music guitar students to take advantage of numerous performing and teaching opportunities on and off campus. Completion of the degree normally necessitates four semesters of full-time study and requires a one-hour solo recital as well as a one-hour chamber recital.

The Georgia State University Jazz Studies concentration offers a comprehensive approach to developing competence in jazz performance, improvisation and knowledge of jazz history. It also equips students with professional skills in establishing and maintaining high school or college-level jazz programs while nurturing their creative talents in jazz arranging and composing.
The program provides valuable opportunities for students to engage in quality jazz organizations, including large jazz bands and jazz combos. Furthermore, students will enhance their playing by participating in academic jazz courses such as jazz improvisation, jazz arranging and jazz pedagogy, among others. This Georgia State Orchestral Conducting concentration provides a course of study intended to: a) develop and enhance the conducting skills of students, b) extend students’ musical and administrative knowledge in conducting orchestras and c) prepare students for doctoral study in conducting. Successful applicants are active orchestral conductors who demonstrate potential as professional conductors. Conducting audition/videotape required.

Credits from your courses can be applied toward our MPH, Ph.D., DrPH or Graduate Certificate in Public Health program upon admission. You can dip your toe in now and dive in later, depending on your unique situation and goals.
Students in the MPH, Ph.D., DrPH, or Graduate Certificate in Public Health programs who want to build upon maternal and child health specific knowledge and skills can embed the Maternal and Child Health Graduate Certificate. Because many of the prerequisite and required MCHGC program courses overlap with the MPH program, you can earn both credentials at the same time.
The program is open to public health graduate students and practitioners and leaders from other allied public health professions. Enhance your previous education and career experience and prepare to advance in the public health industry or other allied public health fields.

This dual-degree program enables qualified students to enroll in graduate courses late in their undergraduate program and apply the coursework toward the bachelor’s and master’s programs. This allows students to earn a B.S. and M.S. in five years, typically saving a year of time and tuition dollars.
This Georgia State University B.S./M.S. program offers students the ability to get a B.S. and M.S. in mathematics with a concentration in statistics. We also offer a B.S./M.S. in mathematics with no concentration.
Students of mathematics and statistics enjoy high-paying job opportunities in a wide range of fields and are also well prepared for further study at the graduate level in mathematics, statistics and other fields.
Mathematics and Statistics, Ph.D.
The faculty in the Georgia State University Department of Mathematics and Statistics view the disciplines as great unifying themes in our modern culture. Math/stats is a language, a science, an art form and a tool of tremendous power.
The Ph.D. degree program in Mathematics and Statistics offers a choice of three concentrations:
- Mathematics
- Bioinformatics
- Biostatistics
These concentrations address the critical need for mathematics faculty as well as the need for highly trained researchers in mathematics and statistics. Successful students will be effective and creative mathematics and statistics professionals.
Students in the concentrations in bioinformatics and biostatistics will graduate with a broad background in applied areas that will position them for hire into roles in business, industry, governmental institutions and research universities.

Mathematics Education, M.A.T.
College of Education & Human Development
Mathematics educators are responsible for teaching learners the intellectual skills and knowledge across a comprehensive and coherent set of mathematics principles and standards for grades 6-12. Our urban communities need highly skilled mathematics teachers whose content knowledge and instructional practice honor students’ diversity and promote equity. Mathematics educators create learning environments that enable students to learn mathematics by thinking critically, engaging them in mathematical practices and using critical thinking to make sense of core mathematical ideas. Such learning environments, grounded with research-based teaching strategies, embrace Georgia Standards of Excellence in Mathematics for depth and understanding.
The Georgia State University secondary mathematics degree program is grounded in educational theory, research and best practice, integrating principles of social justice and equity. Throughout the program, students take specialized education and content courses and gain practical teaching experience in grades 6-12. Our dynamic program features technology integration and offers study-abroad opportunities. Faculty support teacher candidates in planning, instruction, assessment and reflection with colleagues, faculty and partner schools committed to excellence in education.
The secondary Mathematics degree program is for students who hold a bachelor's degree and seek an initial teaching certification in Secondary Mathematics, grades 6-12. This program leads to a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) and a clear and renewable (T5) Induction Certificate in Georgia.
Education programs leading to professional licensure or certification (nursing, education, social work, counseling, accounting, allied health professions, etc.) may require additional approval from separate licensing boards, depending on the state. Mathematics Education, M.Ed.
The program’s chief goal is to strengthen secondary students’ mathematical understandings. This is achieved by providing you with opportunities to deepen your knowledge of learners from diverse backgrounds and explore equity issues in mathematics classrooms within urban environments.
The program will prepare you to conduct action research in the context of your classrooms, inform instruction and share the knowledge gained in a professional community of teachers.
In general, the Program of Study is framed by the principles and standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the core propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
The M.Ed. major in Mathematics Education at Georgia State University is offered entirely online program and designed to be completed in four semesters.
