Introduction
As you have heard on the news,
our town, Cicero, has been named as one of the top
ten cities of this century as being the most obese and unfit communities.
This is not
something to be proud of, as you know.
We want the citizens of our town to proudly
walk through this town without displaying double chins or having banana split
dishes
strewn amongst our beautiful trees. You
have been chosen to help solve this dilemma
because it is a well-known fact that you have just completed a comprehensive
nutrition
and fitness unit at your middle school.
TASK
Your job is to help the
wonderful but “large and lazy” people of this town to stop chewing
the fat and quit sitting on their duffs. The
goal for you and your team of “nutritional fat
cutters” is to form a restaurant/fitness center that will help guide these
wonderful fellow
citizens to help them lose weight and become physically fit.
So here is what is being proposed
to your team:
-reflect on what you have learned in your past nutrition and fitness unit.
-research the internet for more advanced and current research in these areas.
-create a restaurant/fitness
center for your town that will be able to accommodate (physically)
each individual’s needs to become thinner and more fit.
-create menus and fitness plans that will aid these people to live a more healthy lifestyle.
-be creative when convincing the citizens of your town to visit and participate at your center.
-explain the factors that
attributed to their weight gain and lack of activity.
Process
1. Each of you need to set up a journal and how it will be organized.
–recording of information from research
–daily log of information formulated
–questions that were formulated
–rough drafts, etc.
2. Conduct the research
-components of the food pyramid
-why do people overeat
-how much do people really know about healthy eating
-what constitutes an acceptable amount of fat and salt
-what do food labels really mean?
-what is an acceptable weight?
-how does one plan a physical fitness regime.
-what exercises are good for certain parts of the body
-come up with a creative name for your restaurant and fitness center.
-how can one have a diet plan and make it creative, fun, and satisfying?
3. Collect ads that portray fitness and healthy eating habits.
4. Design:
-Menu and menu cover
-Fitness brochure log
5.
Write an ad campaign that will be either featured in the local
newspaper, on the radio,
or on television urging all to participate.
