Freshman and transfer students within the University System of Georgia (USG) system strongly encouraged to take the Regents’ Reading and Writing Test during their first semester of enrollment. It is recommended that you take the test as soon as possible. If you do not take and pass the test during your first semester of enrollment, you are required to take one or both of the remedial courses in each subsequent semester until both portions of the test are taken and passed. It may be possible to exempt one or both portions of the test based on standardized test scores, such as the SAT, ACT and TOEFL for international students.
Georgia State University requires all students seeking a baccalaureate degree to satisfactorily complete a basic core curriculum of general education subjects. In Area A of the core curriculum, students are required to select a course in mathematics. A math placement test is required for all students who need or desire to enroll in a course higher than Math 1101 (Introduction to Math Modeling 3hrs).
Chem 1211K is the prerequisite for all chemistry and biology courses at Georgia State University.To register for Chem 1211K, you must take a diagnostic test. All students, except those with chemistry AP scores of 2 or better, SAT subject scores of 600 or better, or completion of a college-level chemistry course, are required to take the test. If you are interested in taking a foreign language class higher than 1001, you will need to take the placement test. The test is offered for French, German and Spanish.
