Major Exploration

Being undecided or undeclared about a major is not a bad thing, but we do want to help you become a student who knows what you want to major in while at GSU. In fact, the average Georgia State student changes their major three times before graduating. Choosing a major does not have to be a hard task and that is why the Student Advisement Center and other offices on campus are here to help you. We call this process Major Exploration because we want you to explore all the options that are available to you as a student here at GSU! We will do this through a plan we have created to assist you along the way of exploring and choosing a major that will eventually lead you to a career you can look forward to after graduation!

Some of the benefits of this process include:

  • A chance to become an engaged student by finding out more about yourself and how your interests, skills, and abilities can apply to a major at GSU
  • Educating yourself on the opportunities available to you for a lifetime of jobs and activities
  • Connecting you with resources around campus to help facilitate your involvement at GSU and better prepare you for life after graduation

The process you will go through has three steps. While you can expect the advisor to help you along the way, there are expectations that the advisors have of you while going through this process.

Step 1: Know Yourself
Step 2: Know What is Out There
Step 3: Take Action!

To start your path to Major Exploration, or to set up your first appointment with an academic advisor, please call 404-413-2300 or stop by the Student Advisement Center in Sparks Hall 255.

Other resources that you can explore now are the Career Services website and the Major in a Minute videos that were created by the College of Arts and Sciences.
