The primary function of the Office of Latino Student Services and Outreach (LASSO) is to recruit Latino students to GSU and to assure that Latino students persist to graduation. We are committed to the enrichment and graduation of Latino students at GSU. This is done by providing advising, support, advocacy, mentoring, academic support, and referral services. We are interested in collaborating with other offices and departments on campus to develop partnerships focused on student learning while also establishing an inclusive community that enhances the success of Latino students.
In support of Georgia State University’s mission, the mission of the Office of Latino Student Services and Outreach (LASSO) is to actively engage in the recruitment and retention of Latina/o students. This mission is accomplished by providing students with academic support services and programs that compliment the personal and career development of Latino students.
The office seeks to be a central resource for Latinos on campus and in the community to support and encourage Latino student persistence at Georgia State University. In an attempt to create learning opportunities beyond the classroom that spark intellectual, personal, and civic growth for leadership, LASSO also provides students with various community service and outreach opportunities. Another objective of LASSO is to provide students with a warm cultural environment that will encourage their full participation within the larger University community.
The goals of LASSO provide order and structure to our daily interactions with students. They also allow us to measure our progress towards achieving success.
The Latino Student Services and Outreach Office support a variety of programs and initiatives. Some of these programs are:
