FLC Peer Mentors
FLC Peer Mentor Program
Purpose:
The Freshmen Learning Community (FLC) Peer Mentor Program is designed to provide opportunities for undergraduate students to serve in a mentorship capacity to all first-year students enrolled in the FLC Program.
Role and goals of Peer Mentors:
- Represent First Year Programs and the Office of Undergraduate Studies at campus events
- Support academic success of first year students
- Serve as a mentor to first year students enrolled in a FLC
- Connect students to faculty, academic advisors, staff, and University resources
- Assist GSU 1010 instructors with the incorporation of co-curricular activities
- Aid in the overall transition of first year students into the GSU community
- Encourage involvement in University organizations and campus events
- Foster “ownership” in the collegiate experience
Responsibilities of Peer Mentors:
- Commit an average of 10-12 hours weekly to the peer mentor position
- Attend every GSU 1010 class meeting
- Participate in the required co-curricular events associated with the FLC program including but not limited to Convocation, Welcome Week events, community service projects, academic success workshops and other designated events
- Complete ConNEXTion reports for each of your mentees to ensure a successful transition to college and engagement with the GSU community
- Plan monthly social and/or academic event for FLC students
- Attend required Peer Leader meetings and trainings
- Contribute to and participate in the overall mission of the Freshman Learning Community program
Training and Professional Development:
- Peer Mentor Induction Ceremony during April 2012
- Training during the week of August 13 – 17, 2012
- Attend S.S. State in August 2012
- Attend Leadership Conclave in Fall 2012
- Monthly staff meetings
Salary and Benefits:
- Stipend $1500/semester

Become an FLC Peer Mentor
The Office of Undergraduate Studies is currently accepting applications for the 2012 FLC Peer Mentor Program. Applications are available in the Office of Undergraduate Studies located in Sparks Hall, room 224. The application deadline including recommendation are due Tuesday, March 6, 2012.
