About Us
The Georgia State Student Media Department is currently comprised of four groups: GSTV, New South, The Signal, and WRAS-Atlanta. These groups provide students with opportunities in radio, video, print journalism, and literature.
GSTV is the student-run television station of Georgia State University, which broadcasts to University housing on Channel 91 & online at http://www.gstvonline.org/. GSTV presents student-produced news and variety programming as well as coverage of on-campus events.
New South is Georgia State University's student-edited literary journal. It adheres to the standards of peer-reviewed literature journals across the United States. The organization also stages a number of readings throughout the school year both on and off campus. More information on workshops can be found at the New South website (see Directory under Contact Us). In 2011, the organization launched Underground, featuring content exclusively from the GSU student body.
The Signal is the student-run newspaper of Georgia State University. It features newswriting from Georgia State students with letters from the campus and city community as well as occasional contributions from campus writers across the country. The Signal received the Georgia College Press Association General Excellence award in its division in 2011, as well as being listed among the 22 finalists for the national ACP Pacemaker award.
WRAS-Atlanta is the nation's only student-run 100,000 watt radio station. WRAS has been selected by Creative Loafing staff and readers as the best overall radio station in Atlanta on multiple occasions. All WRAS DJs are Georgia State students and Georgia State sports are covered by Georgia State Alumni employee Dave Cohen.
