What made you choose Georgia State for your college education?
Truthfully, Georgia State wasn’t my first option. I wanted to attend art school, but my plans were flipped upside down when things fell through at my dream school. I think God wanted me to attend Georgia State. My mom visited and she thought it would be a great next step for me. Still brokenhearted, I decided to do some research. I got accepted, and after my first semester never wanted to leave!
How have you been able to pursue personal interests at Georgia State before graduation?
Although I’ve changed my major several times in my mind, I never officially changed it from studio art. While adhering to the curriculum, I’ve also been able to take modern dance, ballet, piano and guitar. I have always had an interest in all types of art, but never had an opportunity to pursue them. Attending college opens up many doors and is a great way to try new things.
What are your post-graduation plans?
I am considering pursuing a Master of Arts degree at the University of Georgia, concentrating in Drawing and Painting. My ultimate career goal is to be a lifestyle photographer, as well as own my own graphic design business.
What is your favorite Georgia State memory?
Hmm, there are several, but one of the best was our inaugural football game. I remember everyone being so happy! My friends and I rode the GSU shuttle from campus to the Georgia Dome. It was packed, but there was so much camaraderie as we chanted cheers and sang songs on our shuttle ride. When we got our first ever touchdown there was so much school spirit, hugging and cheering! I remember thinking “I’m a part of history.”
Living in the Commons was pretty awesome all the time, so there are splendid memories there as well. I’m still friends with my roommates, and the privilege of living on-campus allowed me to have the full college experience of leaving home for the first time.
Is there any advice you, as a graduating panther, would give an incoming panther?
If I could give any advice to an incoming freshman I’d say discover your passions and pursue them with everything you’ve got. I’ve been so blessed to have parents who have encouraged me to follow my passions, and I’m so thankful for them. Now is YOUR time. College is a fresh start, so utilize the resources you’ve been given.
