A leading research university in Atlanta, Georgia

Adrienne Gonzalez

What is your title? Dean’s Office Administrator, College of Arts and Sciences

Would you like to share a little about your immediate family or family history? I am originally from Southern California, but my family moved to Augusta, Georgia when I was about two years old. For the most part, we’ve been in Georgia ever since. I have two cats, Steve and Bella, and two dogs, Scout and Pēpo.

How long have you been working at Georgia State University? Five and a half years.

What do you do on a typical day? Most of my work involves dealing with budgets for the Dean’s Office and some for the College. I also manage all of our front office support and all the little day-to-day issues that make a Dean’s Office run as smoothly as possible.

What is your background? Academically, I have a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from Agnes Scott College, and am currently working on a Master’s degree in History here at GSU. Professionally, I worked in the Office of Admission at Agnes Scott for three years after I graduated there. Then I joined the staff in GSU’s Anthropology Department. Since last October, I’ve been in the Dean’s Office of Arts & Sciences. Personally, I grew up listening to jazz, eating home-cooked meals, and running around with the neighborhood kids. I went to a fine arts magnet school in Augusta and spent my time as part of the dance and theatre communities there.

What do you do when you are not at work? Most of my free time is spent reading history. But when I do get a few spare moments, I volunteer as a docent (tour guide) at the High Museum of Art. I also practice yoga a few times a week. I like to take the dogs for walks, cook and bake from scratch, and spend time with friends.

What is your favorite thing in your office? All my trinkets that folks have brought back for me from around the world

What don’t people know about you? I make delicious popcorn on the stove top. I am a crossword puzzle addict.

If you weren’t working at Georgia State, what would your ideal job be? Professional world-traveler (People get paid for that, right?)
