What is your job title? Building Services Superintendent for the Student/University Centers

Would you care to share a little background on your immediate family or family history? I’m married with two children. A young man 18 years of age and a young lady 16 years of age. My son is a senior at Shiloh High School preparing to attend SCAD (Savannah School of Art and Design) and my daughter is a junior on the Shiloh Competing Cheer Leader/Tumbling Squad. She is looking forward to attending Auburn University or Columbus State University or Georgia State University after graduation.

How long have you been working at Georgia State University? Four years and three months

What do you do on a typical day? Oversee and managed the day-to-day operations of the Student/University Center’s Building Services staff. Meet and conference with prospective building services vendors. Work closely with Maintenance Engineers, Set Techs and Building Managers in providing a high quality of services. Coordinate and direct goals and objectives of the Student/University Center’s mission. Attend daily coordination and staff meetings with the Director, Assistant Directors, and Department Managers. Perform quality assurance inspections to assure a high quality services and compliance with safety policies and procedures within the Student/University Center environment.

I implement on a daily basis the “Caught Green Hand” initiative which is designed to award students or staff is caught recycling paper, plastic and cans. They are given a coupon to redeem for a free meal, tee shirt or a gift.

What is your background? Building Service Management — I was Senior Vice President of the Burks Companies and District Manager for American Building Maintenance two of the largest building services companies in the country. Over eighteen years of experience in the industry.

What do you do when you’re not at work? Mentoring with the 100 Black Men MOT (Men of Tomorrow) Program, play golf, read and is actively involved with the Gwinnett County NSAACP as the 1st Vice President and Political Action Chairman

What’s your favorite thing in your office? My eight track player and pictures of my family

What don’t people know about you? Chairman of the Staff Council Sustainability Committee, Vietnam Veteran, Awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Inducted into the Atlanta Public Schools Hall of Fame Sports (Life Time Achievement Award)
