A leading research university in Atlanta, Georgia

Sam Daniel

What is your title? PC System Specialist Lead, College of Education

Would you like to share a little about your immediate family or family history? I got married more than a year ago to my beautiful wife Jeena. My mom and dad, who are originally from India, live in Chattanooga, TN. I also have an older brother who is married and has two children, my niece Adrina and nephew Ayden.

How long have you been working at Georgia State University? I worked for the College of Education Dean's office as student assistant when I was freshmen at GSU. Then I joined COE Tech Team as student assistant as I was getting closer to finishing my degree. Finally for the last 5 years I have been a full time staff with the team.

What do you do on a typical day? In the morning when I first get in the office we go over all of the projects for the day. I work under a great leadership team of Randy and Toni and they are always ready to help with any problems that I have trouble with or don't understand. Then I give the assignments for the hardest working co-workers at GSU, Jose, Holbert and Abiy. Then we start solving technology issues in the college. With the college going to Active Directory, the university going to a new email system, installing new technology into classrooms and departments ordering new computers let’s just say our days are fully packed.

What is your background? I was speech major with a minor in marketing. When I started working at COE as student assistant for the tech team Randy, Toni, Walter and my boss at the time David Sawyer would work with me and challenge me to expand my knowledge of information systems. They would give me technology issues to resolve on my own to expand my knowledge base.

What do you do when you're not at work? I serve as youth leader at my church Atlanta Christian Assembly. When I am not doing that, I work with two non-profit organizations. The first one is the Saju Samuel Foundation an organization that collects old computers and rebuilds them to give to people who cannot afford them. Every once in while I also volunteer at the Atlanta Dream Center, an inner city organization that helps people in the city of Atlanta.

What's your favorite thing in your office? One of my favorite things is my Georgia State football poster from the inaugural season, which I have displayed in my office. I also love my white board because it keeps me organized.

What don't people know about you? Robert Kennedy once said “Some men see things as they are and say why. I dream things that never were and say why not." I dream about the "why not" when it comes to leaving positive mark in this world.

If you weren't working at Georgia State, what would your ideal job be? My ideal job is to work with any organization to help people.
