What is your title? Video Analyst for the Media Office in the College of Arts and Sciences
Would you like to share a little about your immediate family or family history? I was born and raised in New York City. My mother is from central Mexico and moved to the United States after she met my father on a blind date. My father was the son of two Polish immigrants who escaped to the US at the beginning of World War II. I have a brother who lives in Thailand and a partner of 8 years who is an administrator at Emory University.
How long have you been working at Georgia State University? I have been working at Georgia State for the past 3 and half years. My position started as a temporary part time position, which later became a full time staff position.
What do you do on a typical day?
Most of my day is spent editing video, creating graphics and videotaping people working at GSU. Since being here I’ve created over 25 videos highlighting each major within the college as well as specific student programs. They can all be viewed at http://www.cas.gsu.edu/major_minute.html.
What is your background? I graduated from Cornell University in 1999 and immediately moved to Boston. While I was there, I worked for Errol Morris, the director of the Academy Award winning documentary The Fog of War, on which I was the graphics supervisor. I then began work for NOVA on PBS. I moved to Atlanta in 2008 with my partner who was offered a position at Emory University. After being in Boston for almost 10 years I was ready for an adventure and better weather.
What do you do when you are not at work? Until a few weeks ago, I spent most of my free time editing my first feature documentary, AKA Blondie, a film about Atlanta’s legendary exotic dancer from the Clermont Lounge. It recently premiered at the Atlanta Film Festival and will be showing every night at 9pm at the Plaza Theater from May 4th-9th. I also like to cook, hike and sip on good tequila.
What is your favorite thing in your office? A quote from Ira Glass. It rambles in true Ira Glass fashion but the gist of it is “you will create a volume of bad work before you create something good. You just have to fight your way through it.”
What don’t people know about you? I am the lead singer of an 80’s/90’s cover band – The Wallbangers. We’ve recently started playing at weddings so I am officially a wedding singer.
If you weren’t working at Georgia State, what would your ideal job be? My ideal job would be working as a documentary editor. There are only a few lucky people who can make a living while doing this. Hopefully I’ll be one.
