Title: Police Communications Manager
Family: My husband of nearly 10 years, Stephen, is a veteran Atlanta Police Department Investigator with 27 years experience. We have one daughter, Taylor, who attends Austin Road Middle School.
How long have you worked at Georgia State? 10 years
What do you do on a typical day? At the Police Department your day can run the gamut. I manage the Police Emergency Communications Center which operates 24 hours a day - we handle the emergency calls and dispatch GSU Police officers. A major part of my job, however, focuses on networking information from the GBI / FBI, Atlanta Police Department and other campus and local police agencies. I also deal with criminal history record information, serve on GSU Disciplinary Review Committee, and oversee our digital police radio communications.
What's your background? I have been in law enforcement emergency communications for more than 23 years. The majority of my experience came from many years with the Atlanta Police Department. Both there and today at Georgia State my specialty is law enforcement training and instruction for 911 operators, dispatchers and police officers. I'm a state certified police instructor and I teach classes for most of the metro Atlanta police academies, as well as for the Georgia Public Safety Training Center. I also serve as an adjunct instructor for the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigations). I'm a certified U.S. Homeland Security Incident Command System Instructor and I have taught courses for campus police at Notre Dame, Florida State University, Winthrop University, and New York City College, among others.
What's your favorite thing in your office? In 2008, I had a wonderful opportunity to design and implement a new GSU Police Communications Center and it is so rewarding to see the center fully operational! The new center was a million dollar project and has been noted as a state of the art Emergency Communications Centers in the Southeastern U.S. To know that you were instrumental from conception to completion is awesome!
What don't people know about you? I toured through eight different countries in Europe at the age of 16.
