Title: Staff Assistant, Graduate Recruiting and Student Services Department, Robinson College of Business.
Family: I have a 15yr old son Isaiah, who is a sophomore at Alexander High School in Douglasville, GA. I have two generations of family from Atlanta- from the historic Auburn Avenue to historic West End. My family home Church is Ebenezer Baptist.
How long have you been working at Georgia State University? I started working at GSU in April 2007 for the RCB Dean's Office. Before my current position, I worked in the School of Accountancy as a Customer Service Specialist II. I really enjoy working for GSU.
What do you do on a typical day? Provide extraordinary customer service by responding to walk-in, e-mails and telephone call inquiries from prospective and current students. Serve as primary contact for general admissions, application process, and program information. Provide administrative support for Assistant Dean, director, assistant directors, and academic advisors that include processing travel requests and expense statements, scheduling appointments, and composing correspondences. Assist with special projects and event planning for graduations, orientations, and admissions. Maintain inventory of office supplies, books and materials for premium graduate programs. Coordinate requests for equipment maintenance and facility services. I love working with the students.
What is your background? I attended J. E. Brown High School in the historical West End Atlanta Area. I have worked in several administrative and customer service capacities including working at General Motors and the Renaissance Hotel.
What do you do when you're not at work? My mother was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's and resides in Sadie Mae's Nursing Home. On the weekends I visit my mother, attend church, maintain my garden and landscape, going to antiques stores and spending time with good friends. My son plays on his school basketball team, I attend all his games.
What's your favorite thing in your office? My favorite thing is the architectural design of the reception area, especially the arch design of the main doorway. The tall windows provide a lot of sun light and a good view of Broad Street and Downtown Atlanta.
What don't people know about you? I enjoy romantic comedy movies such as The Wedding Planner and Monster-in-Law starring Jennifer Lopez. I like attending art festivals, plays, the movies, creating gourmet dishes, and dining in fine restaurants.
If you weren't working at Georgia State, what would your ideal job be? I would have liked to be an elementary school teacher or entrepreneur and own a Day Spa & Salon with my own cosmetic line.
