Grace Simms

Leadership: For three years, I served as the mount de Sales student coordinator for Absolutely Incredible Kid’s Day as well as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Central GA Drug and Alcohol Awareness Celebration and March. I spearheaded the first school fund raiser to promote sexual violence awareness entitled “Jeans for Justice” and I have participated for the last four years as the student representative on the planning committee of Take Back the Night, a national sexual assault awareness campaign.

Platform: As a Senator, I would like to see changes in the level of activism around our school. With over 30,000 students on the GSU campus daily, it shocks me to see almost every person walk by the tables in quad unaware that fund raisers and events are happening in their direct vicinity. I would also like to give the student body more of a voice in the decisions made that affect them. If people feel they have the ability to change things they will inevitably try harder to do so. Another thing I would like to try and change is the way the One-Stop-Shop system works. It is always backed up and for any given caller, it can take hours upon to hours just to get to talk to someone personally. I would also like to see a decrease in the amount of school fees students have to pay as well as a decreased in the price for parking. Parking alone at GSU costs almost $1000 a year, which is just absurd. Last but certainly not least, I would like to see a change in the level of female representation at GSU.
