Community Service Awards
The Office of Civic Engagement honors student leaders and student organizations who have contributed to the university and the greater Atlanta community through community outreach and civic engagement.
The three awards are:
Margaret Mead Award
Given to a student organization who has demonstrated leadership and commitment to serving the Georgia State and Atlanta community to bring about social change. “Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Given to a student organization who has developed partnerships with other groups and/or community organizations to better accomplish its service goals. “We all come into the world alone… we leave the same way… but in between we have a chance to connect and to help each other.”
Martin Luther King, Jr. Award
Given to a student leader who has persisted in making a difference in the community through creative and courageous leadership. “And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor polite, nor popular; but one must take it because it is right.”
Nomination applications are available in the Office of Civic Engagement each spring.
