Civic Engagement

Community Plunge

Community Plunge is a program that provides first year students at Georgia State University with opportunity to become involved in service to the greater Atlanta community. The program is organized by the Offices of Civic Engagement, Atlanta Based Learning and New Student Programs and Parent Relations. The purpose of the Community Plunge program is to develop out of classroom experiences that enhance critical thinking skills of students and also provide them an opportunity to make a difference in the community.

In addition to providing an important service to the community, students will have an opportunity to participate in a joint service project with fellow Georgia State students, faculty and staff. The experience will offer:

  • A sense of community building and teamwork, not only among your classmates, but with other non-profits in the Atlanta downtown community
  • Furtherance of information knowledge of the surrounding areas around campus to relay to fellow students and share in class discussions when appropriate
  • Knowledge to share with fellow students if they are interested in volunteer projects
  • And assist students in understanding the spirit of civic responsibility and service to the Atlanta community

There will be several different service projects from environmental clean up to working with the homeless. For more details contact the Office of Civic Engagement at (404) 413-1550. We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity to serve and to contribute to “helping build a better Atlanta.”
