Federal Work Study is a part of the Financial Aid package - an award that students earn while working up to 20 hours per week.  The Community Service Component of this program is a combination of these opportunities, affording students the means to participate in meaningful service while earning their FWS awards.  The positions we offer give students flexibility in scheduling as well as options for finding work that will give them hands-on experience and a chance to have a meaningful impact on others.

The CSFWS program is growing tremendously.  It was initiated in 1994 with three work sites and 24 students.  The program continues to gather momentum and we encourage students who are interested in our program to come by our office in Suite 320 of Student Center.

As we begin our sixteenth year of the Federal Work Study Program Community Service Component, we look forward to further serving our students and our community.

Background Checks

Students need a background check through the University for working with or around children. These are on file in our office and we would be glad to send a confirmation of a student's eligibility at your request.

All Georgia State students who work at sites where children are present will have a background check performed.  Please contact Gillian Ruland at 404-413-1550 or gillianruland@gsu.edu to request that students at your site complete background checks.
