The Honors College offers students a variety of advantages that can help to create an extraordinary learning environment at Georgia State. This program offers students tailored classes, opportunities to participate in advanced research and complete an honors thesis, priority registration, top facilities, dedicated housing, freedom to choose the amount of honors courses, and graduate school preparation. Honors students are encouraged to work towards one of three levels of honors distinction: general, advanced, and research.
The Honors College admission is limited to approximately 200 incoming freshman students each year. Incoming freshmen must first complete the application process for admission to the university. Once you have submitted the necessary test scores and high school transcripts, you will be contacted for additional information if you qualify for potential admission into the program. All incoming freshmen honors students are required to take Honors 1000. This one-hour pass/fail course, offered fall semester only, is designed to provide first-semester students with an orientation to high-level academic work, exposure to a current topic and basic research in the faculty member's area of expertise, as well as an opportunity to work with a regular faculty member at the beginning of their college career. Classes are limited to 15 or fewer students.
Currently enrolled Georgia State students can apply to the Honors Program if they have completed 12 hours of course work with a 3.5 GPA. Transfer students with a 3.5 GPA are also encouraged to apply.

The Honors College offers two yearly scholarships, open to all currently enrolled honors students. The first is the Alumni Foundation Scholarship and the second scholarship is the Paper Project Scholarship. Please visit the Honors College for requirements and submission guidelines.
Honors students should consider applying for post-graduate scholarship opportunities. Many of them require a great deal of preparation so students should being the process of preparing their candidacy for these awards during their freshman year.
