Entering Freshmen

Georgia State University has a number of Entering Freshman scholarships for students who have excelled, both academically and in extracurricular activities, during their high school career. Students must first apply and be accepted to Georgia State University from our Admissions office in order to be considered for these scholarships. Make sure to note both Admissions deadlines and Scholarship deadlines and plan to have all your materials submitted for admission consideration 4-6 weeks prior to scholarship deadlines.

If you are eligible for any scholarships as an Entering Freshman, this information will be listed in the Scholarship section of your acceptance letter from our Admissions office. In your letter, you will also receive special instructions for applying and accepting these scholarships.  Entering freshman who receive these type of merit scholarships are also eligible for University Assistantships, a work opportunity where students conduct research in labs, perform in ensembles, assist in an office setting, or engage in research with a professor. Descriptions of current assistantship duties can be found once you receive your campus ID and password by logging into the scholarship system.

Georgia State University is currently offering the Atlanta Hawks Foundation Scholarship for Entering Freshman. The purpose of the Atlanta Hawks Foundation Scholarship Fund is to provide a scholarship to support incoming first-year University students who reside in the State of Georgia, have been involved in community service during their high school years, and have an interest in studying education.  Each year, one student will be selected to receive a scholarship of $2,500, renewable for up to four years, provided the student maintains full-time enrollment and at least a 2.8 GSU cumulative institutional GPA. To apply for this scholarship after you have been accepted, you must log-in with your Campus ID and Password.

If you are a high school senior with strong academic credentials, a record of service and extracurricular activities, and a desire to make the most of your college experience, we encourage you to explore the Honors College at Georgia State University by visiting the Honors Students section of this website. The Honors College offers special programs, facilities, and benefits for highly-motivated students throughout their college career, ranging from small seminars for incoming freshmen to post-graduate scholarship advising.

The first step in the Honors admissions process is to apply to the university. Once you have submitted the required test scores and high school transcripts, we will contact you for additional information if you qualify for potential admission into the program. While there are no absolute cutoff scores for admission, the average combined SAT (math and verbal) for our 2010 freshman class was 1314 and the average high school GPA was 3.8. A rigorous high school curriculum with AP or IB coursework is a plus.

Entering freshmen who have demonstrated outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement may be considered for a number of competitive merit and need-based scholarships. To be considered you must have already been accepted to Georgia State University. To begin the online application process please login with your campus ID and password.
