Veterans' Student Loan Relief Fund

Requirements: The Veterans' Student Loan Relief Fund is intended to provide assistance to veterans who have incurred educational debt and feel they are in financial difficulties as a result of being defrauded or misled by the proprietary (for-profit) school they attended. The Veterans' Student Loan Relief Fund is open to veterans of all branches of the United States Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines) as well as the Coast Guard, National Guard and Armed Forces Reserves following service in Iraq or Afghanistan after September 11, 2001 and who have attended proprietary (for-profit) schools at the undergraduate level. If selected as a recipient of The Veterans' Student Loan Relief Fund, the veteran will receive up to $5,000 to repay educational loans. 

Soroptimist Women's Award

Scholarship Value: a minimum of $3,000

Requirements:
Eligible applicants are women who

  • Provide the primary financial support for her dependents (including children, spouse, siblings and/or parents).
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Are enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program.
  • Are motivated to achieve their educational and career goals.
  • Reside in one of Soroptimist International of the Americas’ member countries or territories.
  • Have not previously been the recipient of a Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award; are not a Soroptimist member, employee of Soroptimist or immediate family of either. 

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Value: $1000 - $5,000

Award Deadline: opens in September; due December 15, 2012
Requirements:

  • Be a community college, undergraduate or graduate student
  • Be a U.S. citizen, legal permanent resident or an eligible non-citizen
  • Have plans to enroll FULL-TIME at a two or four year U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam in the upcoming academic year.
  • Be pursuing first undergraduate or graduate degree 

SMART Scholarship

Scholarship Value: cash stipends of $25,000 - $38,000 per year depending on degree pursuing
Awards Available: 80-120
Award Deadline: open now; due December 15, 2012
Requirements:

  • a U.S. citizen at time of application,
  • 18 years of age or older as of August 1, 2013,
  • able to participate in summer internships at Department of Defense laboratories,
  • willing to accept post-graduate employment with the DoD,
  • a student in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and,
  • pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in one of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines 

Andrew C. and Eula C. Carlos Fund

Award Deadline: March 11, 2013
Requirements:

  • Undergraduate
    -   Minimum 3.0 GPA
    -   High school GPA of 3.0 for entering freshmen
  • Graduate
    -   Minimum 3.25 GPA in the college

Must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) with the Financial Aid Office. This award requires recipients to have a financial need as documented by the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Chris Perrin Memorial Scholarship

This award was established by the Georgia Council of Juvenile Court Judges in honor of Chris Perrin, a long-time advocate for children, executive director of the council and an alumnus of Georgia State University. This award, shared by the Department of Criminal Justice and the School of Social Work, is given annually to one social work and criminal justice student.

  • Recipient must have completed at least 90 hours in Social Work or Criminal Justice
  • GPA of 2.5 or better and must remain at or above that level in order for the student to receive funds 

James L. Maddex, Jr. Scholarship

Requirements:

  • current enrollment as a criminal justice student
  • a grade point average of 3.0 or higher 

Larry E. Quinn Memorial Award

This award was established in memory of Officer Larry Quinn, DeKalb County Police Officer and Georgia State University honor student killed in the line of duty.

Phil Peters Scholarship Award

Requirements:

  • Students must be Criminal Justice majors, graduate or undergraduate with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
  • Juniors must have completed a minimum of 60-69 semester hours, and seniors must have completed a minimum of 90-99 semester hours.
  • Preference will be given to students who have indicated career goals in law enforcement or students who are already working in the law enforcement field.
  • Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum enrollment of eight semester hours and graduate students must maintain a minimum enrollment of three semester hours.
