In addition to active participation in numerous national and regional professional associations (see staff profiles), staff/faculty also participate in department-focused, cross-functional as well as division-wide staff development programs designed to enhance both professional knowledge (e.g., critical issues in student affairs) and management competency (e.g., leadership, accountability, excellence, collaboration, outcomes assessment) in order to more effectively serve students at Georgia State University. For example, Student Affairs maintains an active professional development program. [25] Further, in the 2007 Spring Semester, the Division of Student Affairs and the Division of Enrollment Services participated in the first jointly sponsored division staff development program focusing on "Improving Customer Service."
