GSU has many levels of faculty evaluation requirements that are published in the Faculty Handbook and in the policies published by each college. Each full-time instructional faculty member, regardless of contractual or tenured status, is evaluated at least once annually along 3 dimensions: 1) teaching; 2) research; and 3) service. This review is done by the faculty’s supervisor in writing. The faculty must sign this evaluation and is allowed to respond, in writing, to this evaluation. The annual evaluations are retained in the department of the faculty. [1]
All faculty (including Part-time instructors & Graduate Teaching Assistants) are subject to student evaluations of instruction. Each faculty that teaches a course is evaluated by the students in the course. These guidelines are detailed in the Faculty Handbook [2], the Part-time Instructor Handbook [3] and the Graduate Teaching Assistant Handbook [4].
In addition to the annual review process, tenure track faculty are subject to a well defined and published pre- and post-tenure review process. Each tenure track faculty undergoes formal review after 3 years on tenure track to determine how they are progressing toward promotion/tenure. This cumulative review is evaluated by the department chair, college dean and the provost. Tenured faculty also undergo a cumulative review every five years. The stipulations for this review process are outlined in the Faculty Handbook [5]. Each college also provides their faculty with a detailed promotion and tenure review policy: College of Arts and Sciences [6] Robinson College of Business [7], College of Education [8], College of Health and Human Sciences [9], College of Law [10] and Andrew Young School of Policy Studies [11].
