Georgia State University curriculum review processes ensure that all new and modified courses meet commonly accepted standards for course level and credit. (See Standard 3.4.1 for a full discussion of academic program approval.) New courses or course revisions are generated by academic departments and forwarded to the Curriculum Committees of the relevant college. The changes are then considered by the entire faculty of the college. [1] To ensure that both the amount and level of credit are appropriate, course syllabi, which must include course content, goals, and assignments are reviewed as part of these processes. In addition, the credit and level of courses is reviewed by internal and external reviewers as part of the Academic Program Review process. [2]
The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia stipulates that one credit hour is equivalent to precisely 750 classroom contact minutes and this standard is used in determining the amount of credit awarded. [3] This applies to all terms and levels of instruction. It also applies to all formats and modes of delivery.
