Georgia State administrative and academic officers have the experience, competence, and capabilities to provide leadership to the University.  

President

The current Georgia State University President, Carl V. Patton, has served in this capacity since July 1992.  His experience includes 6 years (from 1983 to 1989) of serving as Dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; 3 years (from 1989 to 1992) of serving as Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Toledo; and 37 years of work in academic institutions in positions ranging from Instructor to Professor. Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Ron Henry, has served in this capacity since 1994.  His experience includes 3 years (from 1991 to 1994) of serving as Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Miami University (Oxford, OH), and 3 years (from 1989 to 1991) of serving as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Auburn University (Auburn, AL).  He has been Professor of Physics & Astronomy since 1989, and maintains actively involved in grantsmanship; and he continues to publish papers that are primarily related to his current position. Vice Presidents

The Vice President for Finance and Administration, Jerry J. Rackliffe, has served in this capacity since 2003.  He has 23 years of service at Georgia State University  (from 1983 to present), having advanced from the position of Accountant to Associate Director of Grants and Contracts, to Director of Budget and Planning, to Acting Assistant Vice President for Finance, and to his current position as Vice President for Finance and Administration.  His academic preparation for his current position includes being a licensed Certified Public Accountant, having a BBA in Accounting (1983), an MBA in Finance (1988), and a Juris Doctor in 2005.  Offices reporting directly to the VP for Finance and Administration include:  The Assistant VP for Human Resources, the Assistant VP for Auxillary and Support Services, the Assistant VP for Finance/Comptroller, the Assistant VP for Facilities Management Services, the Associate VP for Finance, Budget, Financial Systems, Management and Staff Development, and Police. The Vice President for Development, Nancy E. Peterman, has served in this capacity since 2003, and has over 6 years (2000-2006) of Development experience.  Vice President Peterman has been Assistant, Associate, and Acting VP for Development, prior to taking the current position as VP.  In addition, she also holds the position of President of the Georgia State University Foundation.  Her years at Georgia State University have been characterized by successful leadership in champaigns that have resulted in gifts to the University. The Vice President for External Affairs, Tom Lewis, has served in this capacity since 1991.  Vice President Lewis served as chief of staff for then Governor Joe Frank Harris (GA) prior to accepting his current position.  His office provides leadership that result in greater advocacy and support to the University.  The primary responsibilities for the Vice President of External Affairs include government relations with local, state, and federal government agencies; university relations (media, marketing, and publication); and alumni relations.  Vice President Lewis is the University liaison with the Board of Regents, and local, state, and federal agencies and policy makers.  His office was recently successful at obtaining a combination of state and federal funds of over $50 million for the construction of a new teaching-laboratory science building; and is currently working with experts on an aggressive marketing campaign for the University. Offices reporting directly to the VP for External Affairs include:  The Assistant VP for State Relations, and Budget Operations and Alumni Services, The Assistant Vice President for University Relations, and the Alumni Association. 

The Vice President for Research, Robin Morris, has served in this capacity since 2004.  He holds the rank of Regents Professor of Psychology, and has had administrative experience since 1994 when he became Chair of the Department of Psychology at Georgia State University, a position he held until 2001.  From 2001 to 2004 he held the position of Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies for the College of Arts and Sciences.  He was founding director of the Regents Center for Learning Disorders, and has been involved in collaborative scientific work with  several institutions.  VP Morris is an experienced grantsman, having successful competed for large grants from both public and private sources. Offices reporting directly to the VP for Research include:  The Associate Vice President for Research Integrity, the Associate Vice President for Research, the Assistant VP for Research Administration, and the Director of Technology Commercialization. The Vice President for Student Services, Douglass F. Covey, is a recently-hired GSU administrator, having arrived in January of 2007.  He brings years of experience to the Student Services area, having served as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students (1999-2006) at Idaho State University immediately before coming to GSU, and was Assistant Vice President for Student Affirs at the University of North Florida for two years prior to his move to Idaho. He received his B.A. in Political Science in 1978 from West Virginia University, an M.A. in Higher Education Administration from West Virginia University, and a Doctor of Education in Education Leadership from the University of North Florida.  In 2005 he was named a Fulbright Scholar.
