Comprehensive Standard: The board has a policy addressing conflict of interest.
The “Code of Ethics for Government Service” (State of Georgia Code Sections 45-10-1 [1], 45-10-20 [2], and 45-10-22 [3]) applies to all elected and appointed public officials of the State of Georgia, including the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. Section 45-10-1 is a more general statement (for example, being mindful “that public office is a public trust.” Section 45-10-22 is a specifically focused statement regarding conflict of interest. This section also refers to penalties for violating the conflict of interest provision. In addition, the Governor of the State of Georgia signed an executive order on January 13, 2003, outlining the code of ethics for executive branch officers and employees. [4]
