Narrative:

Human Resources (HR) and the Office of Opportunity Development/Diversity Education Planning (OD/DEP) at Georgia State University facilitate the hiring process for classified and hourly staff.  Both offices are located on campus to assist prospective applicants and current faculty and staff.  OD/DEP and the Office of the Provost oversee the faculty hiring process to ensure that the University's commitments to equal employment and diversity are implemented, that its educational goals are met, and that its operations are maintained. The Provost's office also maintains a website with faculty hiring information. [1]

A variety of printed materials is available in HR that describe the faculty and staff positions available at a given time.  A Classified Employee Handbook [2] is located on the HR website [3] and provides staff with information on a variety of services, such as benefits, leave, and compensation.  In addition, the HR website contains information about classified and hourly vacancies.  The OD/DEP website [4] provides on-line procedures for conducting both faculty [5] and staff [6] searches.  Using these sources of information, in addition to the websites of the individual academic and administrative units, prospective applicants can obtain needed data, including job descriptions, pay scales, and hiring dates.

Employers can utilize the faculty hiring procedures on the OD/DEP website to facilitate their hires.  The procedures cover such topics as obtaining search approval, establishing a search committee, conducting interviews, and hiring successful candidates.  The website also has a section devoted to resources for recruitment and has the forms used in faculty searches.  The Georgia State University Faculty Handbook [7] is also available on-line to prospective and current faculty.  The handbook provides all necessary information for faculty including benefits, leave, promotion and tenure guidelines, and compensation.  In addition, a link is provided on the HR website to the section of the Board of Regents' Policy Manual [8] relating to personnel policies.

Finally, appointment and employment policies are available both for GAs [9] and for PTIs [10] [11] .
