National Science Foundation (NSF) FASTLane

All PIs submitting to NSF must be registered with FastLane. This is done by your OSP Representative. Complete the GSU FASTLANE Registration Form and email it to your OSP Representative at least a month prior to grant application due date.

Proposal submission to NSF occurs directly through FastLane or through grants.gov. Submission directly though FastLane is recommended, unless submission is required through grants.gov (check proposal guidelines). Registration with FastLane is always required.

FastLane

Five (5) days prior to agency deadline, a hard copy of the proposal must be submitted to OSP with the Proposal Approval Form completed and signed by all appropriate parties. OSP Quick Reference details what needs to accompany the Proposal Approval Form.

Simultaneously, PIs should allow their OSP representative access to their proposals.

It is mandatory that the final draft of the application be completed 48 hours before the grant application due date and the PI must email their OSP officer that it is ready to be submitted.

grants.gov

For those proposals required to be submitted through grants.gov, see grants.gov proposal preparation guidelines. NSF proposals which are first submitted to grants.gov are then transferred to FastLane. Proposals must meet FastLane guidelines (e.g., pdf conversion guidelines) and PIs have to be registered with FastLane.

Collaborative Proposals

All collaborative proposals, even if single investigator proposals are required to be submitted through grants.gov, must be submitted through FastLane.

For those proposals planning to collaborate with other institutions below is an excerpt from the NSF Grant Proposal Guide:

A collaborative proposal is one in which investigators from two or more organizations wish to collaborate on unified research project. Collaborative proposals may be submitted to NSF in one of two methods: as a single proposal, in which a single award is being requested (with subawards administered by a lead organization); or by simultaneous submission of proposals from different organizations, with each organization requesting a separate award. In either case, the lead organization's proposal must contain all of the requisite sections as a single package to be provided to reviewers. All collaborative proposals must clearly describe the roles to be played by the other organization, specify the managerial arrangements, and explain the advantages of the multi-organizational effort within the project description. PI's are strongly encouraged to contact the cognizant NSF Program Officer prior to submission of a collaborative proposal (28-29).
