Environmental Programs Advisory Committee (EPAC)

Environmental Programs Advisory Committee

The Office of the President recognizes the value our natural resources provide to our community and to the state of Georgia. The Georgia State University is dedicated to an Environmental Management System (EMS) that establishes effective communication, objectives and goals, internal assessments, and fosters environmental leadership.

The purpose of the Environmental Programs Advisory Committee (EPAC) is to develop and approve policies and procedures that will guide the University in managing regulatory compliance and improve programs to protect human health and the environment. This committee will work out polices for audits and corrective action to help the University maintain compliance with regulations and operate in a responsible manner.

The policies set forth by the committee are to keep the University in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding facility compliance, laboratory safety, the purchase, transportation, use, handling, storage, and disposal of all chemicals. In addition, the Committee makes recommendations and approves training programs on laboratory safety practices that will result in faculty, staff, and students having a continuing conscientious awareness of and for safe laboratory practices, chemical storage, chemical use, and chemical disposal.

P2AD Partnership Program

Georgia State University is pioneering change by taking a leadership role to protect and preserve our state's environment, and in partnership with the Pollution Prevention Assistance Division (P²AD). In October 2006 Georgia State University became a Yellow Ribbon Member with P2AD.

Benefits & Incentives

Environmental stewardship makes good business sense, and P²AD's Partnership Program offers cost savings through increased productivity and higher process efficiencies, as well as improved employee job satisfaction, retention and recruitment.

P²AD worked with a diverse group of stakeholders to develop incentives for participating in the Partnership Program.  Program incentives (PDF, 14KB) increase as a business or organization moves up through three progressive levels: Yellow Ribbon, Red Ribbon and Blue Ribbon.

Yellow Ribbon or Red Ribbon Partners can request a baseline and/or EMS gap assessment to assist their organization in meeting Partnership Program requirements.  An electronic version of the pre-assessment baseline questionnaire (PDF, 120KB) and EMS gap questionnaire (PDF, 108KB) are available online.
