The Environmental Management System (EMS) is an all-encompassing system with written procedures, roles, responsibilities, training documentation, goals, corrective action, etc. on the following:
Georgia State University recognizes the value natural resources provide to the Georgia State University community and to the State of Georgia, and the importance of conducting teaching, research, and service in a manner that is appropriately protective of these limited resources.
To achieve these goals, Georgia State University is committed to an Environmental Management System (EMS) that establishes effective communication, sets objectives and goals, includes internal assessments, and fosters environmental leadership. The Environmental Programs Advisory Committee (EPAC) will help lead the implementation of this Policy, coordinate policies and procedures to guide the University in managing regulatory compliance, and work to improve programs to protect human health and the environment.
Georgia State will promote environmental stewardship by adopting the following C3 principles:
Georgia State University will promote environmental stewardship and will provide training programs for faculty, staff, and students to ensure a continuing awareness of environmentally responsible practices. Georgia State University will communicate to the campus community its commitment to voluntary pollution prevention methods, waste minimization practices, and effective use of natural resources.
Georgia State University is committed to keeping its activities and operations in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding facility operations, laboratory safety, and the purchase, transportation, use, handling, storage, and disposal of all hazardous materials. Environmental compliance will be sustained using the resources available to Georgia State University and in partnership with government agencies.
The Environmental Management System will be reviewed periodically to ensure suitability, adequacy, planning, effectiveness, and program review in meeting performance standards. Periodic review information will be available on the Environmental Programs’ webpage and will be shared with the Georgia State University community.
The Office of Research Integrity-Environmental Programs will administer and monitor this policy.
