Overview of New Fringe Rates
Effective July 1, 2011 Georgia State University established new fringe benefit rates for each of the major employee groups at the campus. These new fringe rates were approved by the Department of Health and Human Services on July 12, 2011. Fringe benefit expenses are determined by applying the appropriate percentage based on employee category to actual salary expense.
Summary of Major Changes
- Three fringe benefit rates based on employee categories (Full time, Part time, and Graduate Assistants)
- Flat fringe benefit rate to be used for the entire fiscal year (Fall, Spring, and Summer Semesters)
- No longer have a separate/different summer fringe benefit rate
- No longer differentiate between retirement plans (ORP vs. TRS) for fringe benefit rate
- Now charging fringe benefit rate to Graduate Assistants and Part Time Employees
Implementation of Fringe Benefit Rates
- July 2011 for Staff, Graduate Assistants, and 12 Month Faculty
- First Fall 2011 Semester Payroll for 9 Month Faculty
- First Summer 2012 Semester Payroll for Summer Faculty
