Overview of New Staff Hiring Practices for Sponsored Projects (1/1/2009)

  1. Positions that are funded from Sponsored Projects (i.e., people whose salaries are paid from fund code 20 accounts) will receive the designation “Sponsor-Funded” plus the job title selected by the PI.  Limited Term should ONLY be used for positions where there employment is less than three years.
  2. There is a “Sponsored Funded” Human Resource staff person who is charge of facilitating the hiring process for sponsored projects who should be contacted for guidance and consultation prior to initiating this process. This person currently is Tineke Battle. tbattle2@gsu.edu (3-3306).

POSITION APPROVAL PROCESS
Pre-Approved Job Titles

  1. There is a "preapproved" list of sponsor-funded titles with job specs (see HR site for list of titles). Positions (new or existing) that use preapproved job titles will not be required to be reviewed by class and comp prior to posting.

  2. PIs (or their representative) complete a Position Review Form (short form) and submit it to the Sponsored Funded HR rep. This can be done prior to grant award (recommended.)

  3. The Sponsored Funded HR rep will review and approve the position and issue a Position Number which is needed for job posting.

Non Pre-Approved Job Titles

1.      PIs can use other GSU job titles, or even create a new job title. These positions must be reviewed and approved by class and comp prior to posting. The regular Position Review Form is used. This can be done prior to the award (recommended).

2.      New job titles that are used regularly by PIs can be added to the preapproved list by making a request to the Sponsored Funded HR staff person.

JOB POSTING

Typical process through PPRTS. Grant Award and Speedtype are required to post the job announcement.

HIRING
After PIs have selected their desired candidate, employment will send the candidate a sponsor-funded offer letter that specifies conditions of employment (the length of employment is contingent upon the availability of funding for the position).
