Graduate Assistantships

There are many exciting opportunities for graduate students to be involved with Georgia State University’s Department of Recreational Services for the 2013-2014 academic year. We are seeking graduate students who desire to gain work related experiences in one or more of the following areas: Fitness Center (Fitness Testing/Personal Training), Instructional Programs/Group Fitness, Intramural Sports, Marketing, Outdoor Recreation, and Sport Clubs. Note ~ Fitness Testing/Personal Training candidates must be pursuing a graduate degree in Exercise Science.

Fitness Center *Manage daily operation of Fitness Center *Conduct fitness assessments, personal training, and cholesterol screens *Review client health history including risk stratification *Coordinate special events with other student and staff members

Instructional Programs/Group Fitness *Coordinate instructor training and evaluation *Assist with scheduling and registration of programs *Instruct group fitness classes *Assist with maintenance of facility and supplies * Coordinate special events with other student and staff members

Intramural Sports *Recruit, hire, schedule, and evaluate staff *Design, organize, and implement training for staff *Collaborate in marketing and advertising strategies for registration of all sports *Assist in the coordination and organization of leagues and tournaments *Coordinate special events with other student and staff members.

Marketing *Develop department marketing and promotion materials *Assist with the layout and design of all department program materials *Market facilities, programs and special event to the campus community *Extensive knowledge of social media necessary *Research marketing tools, venues and media opportunities *Coordinate special events with other student and staff members

Outdoor Recreation *Manage daily operation of outdoor equipment rental program *Assist with trip logistics *Manage inventory including inspection and maintenance *Coordinate equipment loading and unloading for weekend trips *Assist with coordination of publicity for Outdoor program *Coordinate special events with other student and staff members

Sport Clubs *Assist with overall administration of the Sport Club Program *Responsible for maintaining Club documentation *Assist with new Club creation and organization *Develop Sport Club training guides for Club officers and advisors *Enforce policies and safety guidelines *Coordinate special events with other student and staff members

Additional Salary Information: Stipend - Up to $4,500 per Fall and Spring semester plus $2,362 for summer, with in-state/out-of-state tuition waiver. The appointment is on a semester-to-semester basis dependent upon job performance and availability of funding.Fees - Assume responsibility for all student fees (currently $1,064 for Fall 2012).Georgia State University, a unit of the University System of Georgia, is an equal opportunity educational institution and is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.

Pre-requisite experience/knowledge qualifications are particular to each position and program area. All applicants must apply to the appropriate college to be considered. No offer can be made unless the student has been officially admitted to a graduate program of the university. Applicants should familiarize themselves with the application deadlines relevant to their program.
