Retention, Progression and Graduation (RPG)
The University System of Georgia (USG) is placing increased emphasis on institutions improving their RPG rates. Georgia State was one of four USG institutions funded to pursue multiple strategies. Following a competitive process, 14 departments were funded for 2006-07 and 13 departments were funded for 2007-08. Themes include use of Supplemental Instruction to support students in courses with high numbers of D and F grades or W withdrawals (DFW); development of Sophmore Connections courses to build on our highly sucessful Freshman Learning Communities; and various academic advising initiatives. Another strategy includes redesign of some introductory courses in which there are large numbers of DFWs or have limited number of seats available.
