President Mark P. Becker

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the rescheduling of the President's Invited Speaker presentation by Dr. Karl Gerth, which was delayed earlier this semester because of winter weather. The presentation will be April 18 at 3 p.m. in Speaker's Auditorium. Dr. Gerth is an internationally acclaimed expert on Chinese consumerism who will be visiting us from the University of Oxford, and his presentation is certain to be stimulating and thought provoking as he discusses how China's emerging consumer culture will have a global impact.

This semester's faculty and staff roundtables have been scheduled. I will meet with staff on April 14 at 9 a.m. and faculty on April 25 at 2 p.m. Both roundtables will be held in Room 315 of Dahlberg Hall. If you are interested in attending, please contact Chandler Brown at chandlerbrown@gsu.edu or 404-413-1361.

Congratulations to Regents Professor Jorge Martínez Vázquez, director of the International Studies Program in the Andrew Young School, who was recently awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Vigo. He traveled to Vigo, Galicia, Spain, to receive the award at a special ceremony held by the university's Department of Applied Economics. The University of Vigo recognized Martinez for his extensive body of work and research excellence in fiscal decentralization, taxation and tax management. I hope you are having a productive spring semester and, as always, I thank you for your service.

Sincerely,

Mark P. Becker
President
