A leading research university in Atlanta, Georgia

February 15, 2011

President Mark P. BeckerDear colleagues,

I am delighted to announce that former President Jimmy Carter has agreed to be GSU's commencement speaker this spring. Mr. Carter's leadership on a variety of global issues, his passion for education and his devotion to Atlanta and Georgia make him an excellent choice to provide wisdom and guidance to our graduates. I invite you to join us for GSU's Bachelor, Master and Specialist Commencement Ceremony on May 7 at 2 p.m. in the Georgia Dome. As always, commencement is free and open to the public.

You may have seen Saturday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution article about GSU's recently adopted strategic plan. The Q&A article, which appeared in print editions only, touched on many aspects of our plan and how it will chart the university's course for the next 10 years. You may enjoy reading the article if you have not already.

I hope you are having a stimulating and productive spring semester, and I thank you for your continued dedication and service to Georgia State University.

Sincerely,

Mark P. Becker
President
