Sherman Day came to Georgia State University in 1969 as a professor in the Counseling and Psychological Services Department. He later served as acting president of Georgia State from 1991 to1992.
Day, who earned his doctorate in education from the University of Georgia in 1967, also served as Georgia State's acting dean of admissions from 1986 to 1987; dean of the College of Education from 1977 to 1983; associate dean of the College from 1973 to 1974; and chairman and professor of the Counseling and Psychological Services Department from 1969 to 1972.
Day worked in Washington, D.C., as director of the National Institutes of Correction and assistant director of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons for the Department of Justice from 1974 to 1977.
Aside from his work at Georgia State, Day was director of the National Institutes of Correction and assistant director of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons for the Department of Justice in Washington D.C. (1974-1977). He also was managing director of Legacy and Olympic Programs for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (1992-1996), president of North Georgia College and State University (1996-1999), and in 2001 Day became Interim President of Gordon College in Barnesville, Ga.
