Conference Membership
From 1979-1983, Georgia State was a member of the Sun Belt Conference. In 1984-85 Georgia State joined the TAAC (Trans America Athletic Conference), which changed its name to Atlantic Sun (A-Sun) in July 2001. The combined 17 sports swept the conference All-Sports Championships in both men's and women's competition three of the final six years they were members.
In July 2005, Georgia State left the A-Sun to become a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, and located in five of the nine largest media markets in the nation, the other 11 universities in the CAA are: Drexel University, George Mason University, Hofstra University, James Madison University, Old Dominion University, University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Towson University, University of Delaware and Virginia Commonwealth University, and the College of William & Mary. Northeastern University also joined the CAA in July 2005.
