OAASS&P strives for excellence in academics and degree attainment by providing a number of services and programs for the Georgia State community.

Minority Advising Program (MAP)

MAP is a student focused, service support initiative developed and hosted by OAASS&P. It provides one-to-one support components that afford students the opportunity to utilize invaluable personal and professional assets as they advance through Georgia State. Whether through individual contact or group meetings, the experiences gained can be carried over to further enhance one's academic and professional success at all levels of higher educational advancement.

Tutorial Services

Tutoring, homework assistance, and study skills workshops are offered to all students interested in improving their grades and academic performance.

Workshops

The Power of Public Speaking, a workshop series provided by the Office of Africa American Student Services and Programs invites students, alumni and university staff to learn techniques and skills that will build self-confidence and poise.  This Public Speaking workshop will show you how to overcome the fear of speaking in public and will develop each participant into an amazing presenter.

Are You Prepared for Graduate School?  This free six week preparation workshop for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) explores all three areas of the test: Verbal, Quantitative and Analytical Writing.  Our well trained workshop facilitator will get each participant ready to tackle this all important examination to achieve the score needed for your graduate program.

Computer Lab

An area is designated for students to prepare resumes, research papers, homework assignments, and search for information on the Internet.  It is also designed for students to study quietly for an exam or reading assignment.

Recruitment and Retention

Active participation by the OAASS&P occurs in services and programs which recruit and promote the retention of African American students, faculty, and staff. It includes advising referrals for these groups.

Resource Center / Library

Cultural and educational books, videotapes, and reference materials are available to students. Library books, Videotapes, DVDs, and reference materials may be viewed in the office.
