Georgia State University joined colleges and universities across the country Nov. 12-16 to commemorate National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

Georgia State students helped sort food donations during a service project at the Atlanta Community Food Bank on Nov. 14.

Other events included canned food drives, a Salvation Army Bell Ringing, an Oxfam Hunger Banquet and a screening and panel discussion about "The Human Experience."

The week was sponsored by the Office of Civic Engagement, Georgia State Athletics, The Residence Halls Association and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

"This is really an event that brings light to an issue in the community," said Jennifer Bodnar, student affairs advisor in the Office of Civic Engagement. "It gives our students a chance to give back."

Georgia State students participate in a variety of service projects throughout the year, including an annual service project in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
