Georgia State President Mark P. Becker launched the university’s ambitious strategic plan Monday, Jan. 31 in a speech in the university’s student center.
The plan, which sets the course for the university for the next decade and beyond, is the result of a yearlong process that brought together audiences from around the Georgia State community. The strategic planning committee, chaired by professors Paul Alberto and Pamela Barr, held dozens of forums, heard input from hundreds of stakeholders and created a document that will serve as the roadmap for GSU’s future.
“The strategic plan will serve as a guide for the university as we enter our second century and will set us on the path to becoming one of the nation’s premier public research institutions,” said Becker. “It is both broad and deep in its goals and initiatives, and will take Georgia State to the next level.”
Becker said the plan will be implemented in steps, with some initiatives already underway.
“We are a university with momentum and will prioritize our next steps,” Becker said. “The current budget climate is challenging, but we will continue to move forward, change and grow.”
The plan consists of five goals:
Goal 1. Become a national model for undergraduate education by demonstrating that students from all backgrounds can achieve academic and career success at high rates.
Goal 2. Significantly strengthen and grow the base of distinctive graduate and professional programs that assure development of the next generation of researchers and societal leaders.
Goal 3. Become a leading public research university addressing the most challenging issues of the 21st century.
Goal 4. Be a leader in understanding the complex challenges of cities and developing effective solutions.
Goal 5. Achieve distinction in globalizing the University.
