ATLANTA - Internationally acclaimed journalist Christiane Amanpour will be the keynote speaker at Georgia State University's spring commencement ceremony, President Mark Becker announced this week.
"Christiane Amanpour has brought depth as well as a sense of humanity and dignity to her coverage of many of the world's most dangerous conflicts and natural disasters of the past three decades," Becker said. "Her prominence among international correspondents is a testament not only to her considerable journalistic talents, but also to her extraordinary grasp of global affairs and her willingness to go to the story even when getting or being there is risky. We are delighted to welcome Ms. Amanpour to our campus."
Since 1983, Amanpour has been with Atlanta-based CNN, where she covered a number of high-profile stories including the Gulf War, the earthquake in Haiti as well as wars, famine, genocide and natural disasters around the globe. As CNN's chief international correspondent, she interviewed dozens of leaders from the Middle East to Africa and has covered crises all over the world. Recently, Amanpour was named host of ABC's Sunday morning talk show, "This Week," a role she will assume in the fall. According to the network, she also will appear on all other ABC News programs and platforms to provide international analysis and will be anchoring primetime documentaries on international subjects. Her distinguished body of work has earned many accolades, including a Television Academy Honor, nine Emmys, four George Foster Peabody Awards and an Edward R. Murrow award
Georgia State University's bachelor, master and specialist commencement ceremony is Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Georgia Dome.
