ATLANTA – American fashion consultant and television personality Tim Gunn will speak at Georgia State University at 3 p.m. on Monday (Feb. 22) in the Student Center main ballroom.

Gunn will be discussing his book, “Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style,” and his role on the Emmy-nominated reality show, “Project Runway,” featured on the Lifetime channel.

After his presentation, Gunn will answer questions from the audience and sign copies of his book. The program is free and is open to GSU students, faculty, staff as well as the general public.

“Tim Gunn has been an educator in the fashion industry for many years and he will be able to offer a unique perspective to students on transitioning their style from college to the professional world,” said Cara Dawn Byford, student affairs advisor in Campus Events.

Gunn is chief creative officer at Liz Clairborne Inc., a post he has held since March 2007. He formerly served as chair of the Department of Fashion Design at Parsons: The New School of Design. Under Gunn’s direction, the department strengthened its position as a leader in fashion design education in America.

Gunn has garnered acclaim for his role as a mentor to budding designers on “Project Runway,” a series first featured on the Bravo network in 2004. He is known among viewers for his catchphrases such as “talk to me,” “this worries me,” and “make it work.”

In April 2007, Abrams Image Publishers released Gunn's book, “A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style,” which was co-written with Kate Moloney. The authors say the book is meant to “arm each woman with the basics to own her look and make it polished and stunning.” Gunn had a spin-off show from “Project Runway,” called “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style,” in which he made over fashion-challenged women but the show is no longer on the air.

Georgia State’s Student Center is located at corner of Gilmer Street and Piedmont Avenue. This event is presented by GSU Campus Events, part of the Division of Student Affairs. It is paid for by Georgia State Student Activity Fees.
