ATLANTA - With health care reform taking shape in Congress, how do you determine the facts from fiction, and determine how much it will really cost?
Georgia State University will host an interactive discussion entitled, "Perspectives on Health Reform: Science, Fiction and Fantasy," on Monday, Nov. 30, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, 14 Marietta Street, 7th floor seminar room.
Experts will weigh in on who pays, who is likely to benefit from the reform, and how potential health reform proposals might impact health equity. The Andrew Young School of Policy Studies is organizing the event in conjunction with the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Health and Human Sciences.
"Health reform is not only a huge national financial issue, but it is something that will affect us all as individuals," said Karen Minyard, executive director of the Andrew Young School's Georgia Health Policy Center. "We wanted to bring together experts from various colleges at Georgia State University to share perspectives and have a conversation with students, faculty, and staff on issues related to health reform."
Experts will also discuss the role of prevention in reform efforts, how financing drives delivery, and how small, medium, and large employers may be affected.
"This is an historic time for our country and the health care reform efforts now could affect Americans for decades to come," said W. Bartley Hildreth, dean of the Andrew Young School.
The lineup of speakers includes Bill Custer, associate professor of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business Institute of Health Administration; Erin Ruel, assistant professor of sociology; and Dr. Bruce Perry, a visiting professor in the College of Health and Human Sciences, who formerly was executive medical director and chairman of The Southeast Permanente Medical Group.
"This will be an open forum that allows participants to ask questions; discuss pressing concerns; and learn from experts on policy, economics, business, health administration, and sociology," Minyard said.
