I chose to attend Georgia State University because…Growing up, college was more of an idea than a goal. I shocked a lot of friends and family when I said I wanted to leave Augusta and go off to school. I wanted to go to a big city, somewhere I could do music and move up the corporate ladder in business. If you’re from Augusta, you probably were raised that Atlanta was the “big city.” I also wanted to go to a big university where I could still use my HOPE Scholarship. My counselor told me about Georgia State University. I did some research and signed up for what was called “Panther Preview.” All it took was the informational, a campus and a Housing tour, and I fell in love!

Campus Activities and Organizations: The International Business Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi, Public Relations Director for Georgia State University Spotlight Programs, Georgia State University Welcome Center Employee, National Society of Black Engineers

Most Memorable Georgia State experience: First week of school here, both as a freshman, me and my best friend Reco Smith were exploring the campus and Atlanta. We walked through Woodruff Park and came to Broad Street. The whole street was shut down with tables and chairs in the middle with a live band. It was our first real exposure to the city life. That’s when we first realized how different and diverse Georgia State University really was.

If you could be a cartoon character, who would you be and why? I’d be Snoopy. He’s a really cool guy. Just about everyone loves and knows him! If you remember the comic strip “Peanuts” how Snoopy would use his imagination and pretend his house was a fighter jet? Or how Charlie Brown and Peppermint Paty would be arguing and he’d walk up and solve the problem and then go take a nap? That’s how I’d like to be. Can talk if need be, but I’d rather listen and be loved for my imagination and who I am.

Favorite Georgia State tradition: The Library Plaza on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15-1pm. No other time or place will races, religions, fraternities, sororities, and just people of all different backgrounds come together just to socialize, listen to music, and to inform others about their organizations. The “Plaza” represents the ideal Georgia State University; People from different paths, walking together for a common purpose: just to hang out and have fun.

What advice would you give to incoming students? GET INVOLVED! Georgia State University is not the average campus where everything is closed in or regulated by the university.  Your experience here will be whatever you make it to be.  If you want to make friends, socialize, or get involved YOU CAN. If you want to be alone, a social recluse, or a home body, YOU CAN. But, you can’t expect to network, have fun, and get the real college experience if you stay locked up in your room. Step out, and see all that Georgia State University has to offer!

After I graduate from Georgia State, I hope to be rich and famous. If not directly through the entertainment industry, through my talent for marketing. I want to be financially secure so I can travel and take care of mom.
