Emerging Leaders

Emerging Leaders

The Emerging Leaders Freshman Learning Community is designed for students who want to connect to the campus community at the start of their collegiate careers. Research has shown that students who get involved on campus have higher GPAs and are retained at higher numbers. The goal of the Emerging Leaders FLC is to expose students to campus and community involvement opportunities, while simultaneously equipping them with the skills needed to succeed inside the classroom. Additional program highlights include an upperclassmen mentor, individual meetings with instructors, an annual leadership conference and programs, and organized social events. Whether you were highly involved in high school or have a desire to connect to the campus community, this FLC is an excellent first step to collegiate success.

Students in this learning community are required to participate in an overnight summer leadership retreat in late July/early August. The retreat provides the opportunity to connect with classmates before classes begin in the fall. During the two-day retreat, students will participate in team building activities, leadership exercises, and a white-water rafting trip. The cost to participate in the program is $55. Students with demonstrated financial need should contact the FLC Advisor for a Fee Waiver Request form.

Whether you were highly involved and motivated in high school or have a desire to become active at Georgia State, this FLC is an excellent choice. Select one of the links below for more information:
