Joanna Bledsoe

Class of: 2008
Hometown and High School: Roswell, GA; Roswell High School
Major/Minor: History/Political Science

I chose to attend Georgia State University because I love being downtown! Georgia State is completely woven into the city and I love the diversity!  Also, I came to GSU completely undecided about my major but comfortable because of the university’s wide range of possibilities.

Campus Activities and Organizations: WRAS 88.5 FM Newscaster, 1913 Society, Circle K International, National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), BUDI Program, 2005 Inceptor, 2006 Associate Director of Incept

Most Memorable Georgia State experience: The first probate show I attended. It was my first semester of college and I had never been exposed to the Greek life traditions of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. There was so much energy and people and it was like nothing I had been to before; I could still feel vibrations from the stepping even after I left the plaza!

If you could be a cartoon character, who would you be and why? She-Ra: Princess of Power. The name says it all.

Favorite Georgia State tradition: Panther Prowl. It’s always a great way to start off a Friday night, with free food, prizes, games, etc. and seeing all of your friends that you may have missed during the busy week!

What advice would you give to incoming students? Don’t be overwhelmed with the size of the school; once you get involved and find your niche it’s easy to feel comfortable on campus. And don’t be worried about what degree to choose, you have plenty of time and avenues to explore and pick the right major.

After I graduate from Georgia State, I hope to travel and teach English overseas for one or two years before starting graduate school.
