Video Podcast Contest

Video Podcast Contest

Contest is only open to currently enrolled students taking certain College of Business classes.

In the Fall 2009 semester, the Robinson College of Business is offering a contest for students, individually or in groups, to do video podcasting.  Student(s) may produce a 5-10 minute video podcast as a replacement or a supplement assignment.  The podcasting assignment, the grading system, and how it is to be integrated into your course is solely at the discretion of your instructor.

Grading for the podcast is independent from RCB’s contest. Grading will consist of relevance to the course materials, the depth of knowledge demonstrated, innovation in the presentation (i.e., the podcast), and the communicability of the content to the viewer.

Contest Incentives

  • The top three podcasts will be prominently published on the RCB’s main web page and on GSU’s iTunesU site.
  • A feature article will be written for publication in State of Business, RCB’s magazine.
  • Student(s) who produce the top three podcasts, as judged by a panel of University faculty and staff, will be awarded a certificate signed for the Dean and Associate Dean of RCB.

Contest Rules

  • Students may have entries from more than one class.
  • To be accepted, a podcast must be uploaded to your course area of iTunes U in the following format: .m4v with or .mp4 with H.264 compression. Using a mac, "Save for iPhone" from iMovie or Quicktime pro. On a PC, you can use the free Jodix converter to create the right format using these instructions: http://hollywood.gsu.edu/usg/usgcla/itunesupport/jodix.pdf
  • For a podcast to be posted on a public-facing site such as iTunesU and considered as an entry in the contest, the following copyright protection procedures must be followed and accompanying documents uploaded as PDFs to the appropriate tab of your iTunes U course.
  • To ensure credit for your work, students should also submit the podcast to their instructor in any other format they require.
  • The amount of time a contest entry will be hosted on iTunes U may vary. Please remember to keep copies of your content as iTunes U does not constitute a permanent archive for media and content may be reformatted or removed in accordance with site maintenance and expiration procedures.

Deadline

Deadline - Unless an earlier deadline has been established by your instructor, all video podcasts must be uploaded to the GSU iTunes U site no later than one week prior to the last day of class. Instructions for uploading may be found at: http://hollywood.gsu.edu/usg/usgcla/itunesupport/UsingiTunesU-Students.pdf

Resources

The Digital Aquarium

Optimally, students should supply their own camera and sound equipment for creating the podcast.  The University has Macintosh labs available at the Digital Aquarium for producing professional quality podcasts, although the use of the Mac is not a requirement.  During the Fall semester, the Digital Aquarium will be providing podcast production classes at no charge.

The Digital Aquarium has a very limited supply of equipment needed to produce a professional podcast.  Based on availability, this equipment may be checked out with a Panther Card.  The aquarium staff can also provide basic instructions on how to use the equipment.  The Digital Aquarium is located in Student Center #390.
