Welcome to the Office of International Initiatives at Georgia State University. As the Associate Provost for International Initiatives, my goal is to lead international initiatives at Georgia State by facilitating the creation of an internationalized campus culture that builds synergies and expands opportunities where faculty and staff, students, and the larger community will be excited to creatively engage and generate innovation, collaboration, and partnerships campus-wide and beyond.
A major goal of the university’s newly adopted Strategic Plan is to attain distinction in globalizing the university while advancing the international aspects of the other goals. This brings change, the first of which is a shift in operational focus from a service-oriented entity - Office of International Affairs to an initiatives-driven one - Office of International Initiatives.
The new Office of International Initiatives (OII) will represent the strategic integration and coordination of international initiatives, partnerships, grants, programs development and management, events and activities, student and scholar services, and study abroad programs. The Office will also lead the formation of a global consortium of universities, expand faculty teams and focus on leveraging externally-funded research on issues facing emerging nations, create a University International Center, and enhance the global competency of students, faculty and staff.
This new direction will require strategic collaborations between OII and faculty and staff from all colleges and administrative units respectively. It will also translate to enhanced university-wide coordination, advanced inter-collegiate and inter-disciplinary collaborations, and increased support for faculty initiatives through resource allocation, strategic leadership and partnerships.
